Dr. Cathy Schanzer was invited to speak at Unite
for Sight's Third Annual Conference held at Yale University
on April 1 and April 2, 2006. She gave a presentation
to a gathering of doctors, Peace Corps volunteers,
and other healthcare activists about her mission to
build an ophthalmic surgery center in Sierra Leone,
West Africa. Her presentation discussed the various
steps involved in buildling an eye clinic from scratch
and how she is working to help overcome vision problems
in third world countries. An ophthalmologist who attended
the meeting has already approached Dr. Schanzer and
requested an opportunity to perform surgery and clinical
care in the new Southern Eye Clinic in Sierra Leone,
West Africa, later this year.
